Welcome back to my build in public series where I take you behind the scenes of developing Spontaneity, a productivity app designed specifically for individuals with ADHD. If you’ve been following along from my introduction and first update, you know that my mission at Hyperfocus Development is to empower individuals with ADHD to achieve their full potential by providing a personalized, engaging, and flexible productivity tool that they’ll actually use consistently. In this post I’ll share my recent progress, challenges, and plans for the future.
Recent Progress and Key Milestones
Expanding the Scope for Launch
In my last update, I mentioned being deep in the development of Spontaneity and planning for the initial launch. I’m happy to report significant progress, which has allowed me to expand the scope for launch. This means more features and a better user experience right from the start.
Data Schema and Frontend Development
I’m excited to share that I’ve got my data schema to a decent place, decent enough to get the frontend started. You can view it here. This is a significant step as it lays the groundwork for how data will be managed and interacted with within the app.
Project Initialization and Tech Stack
The project was initialized using a fantastic repo with a CLI that sets up ReactNative with Expo, Typescript, NativeWind, and Supabase for the backend. You can check it out here. This setup has streamlined the development process and allowed me to focus on building features rather than configuring the environment.
Sneak Peek of the Home Screen
Here’s a sneak peek of the home screen so far. It’s important to note that I still have to finalize the brand colorway, but I’m happy with the progress made so far.
Challenges and Considerations
Balancing Launch and Personal Life
As far as setting a date for the launch, I have two major considerations:
- My son is due to be born in January.
- I don’t want to launch right before he’s born and then be unable to provide the app with the support it needs.
Given these factors, the aim is to launch Spontaneity within the next three months.
Looking Ahead
Key Objectives
As I move forward, my key objectives include:
- Finalizing the app’s core features.
- Conducting thorough testing to ensure a smooth user experience.
- Establishing partnerships with ADHD organizations and mental health professionals to enhance the app’s credibility and reach.
Funding and Market Opportunity
With over 10 million adults in the U.S. diagnosed with ADHD, there is a significant demand for specialized productivity tools. Spontaneity aims to capture a substantial share of this market by addressing the unique challenges faced by individuals with ADHD. I am currently self-funded and am strategically planning my budget to maximize impact and reach.
